What To Do When You Feel Annoyed
Q: “How can I overcome anger toward my brother? Everything he does annoys me, and I hate him for the way he treats me.”
A: It's not necessarily sin to feel annoyed with someone, and it is actually very normal, yet if you feel that you dislike your brother for the way he mistreats you, work on growing in love for him (Eph. 4:32; 1 Cor. 13:4-7). Jesus said to love and bless those who mistreat us (Matt. 5:44), and as you find ways to show kindness and pray for God's blessing on your brother, it will help you to love him more.
Still, you might feel annoyed even when you have more love for him. There are many situations in life that are hard to endure and test our patience (James 1:2-3), yet we can find peace and joy in the midst of trials (John 16:33; 2 Cor. 6:10), and that is by "walking in the Spirit" (Gal. 5:16, 22-23).
If you generally lack peace, spend time with God in worship and surrender every day, and seek Him with your whole heart until you truly feel at peace. He promises to draw near to us when we draw near to Him (James 4:8). Again, there is still hardship in life, and your circumstances may feel painful at times, but it's possible to endure trials with joy as you focus on Jesus.
