If you are going through a spiritual battle, don’t put your focus on the devil or demons. Instead, make sure you’re surrendered to God. Let Him have 100% control in your life.
Jesus said, “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” — Matthew 10:39
If you’re holding on to any sin, let go! Even if you’re holding back things that are innocent and you don’t want God to have full control in your life, let go.
Take a few moments to think about it- Is there any sin you’re holding onto? Is there anything you wouldn’t do, if God calls you? Is there anything you wouldn’t give up?
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”- James 4:7–10
Don’t isolate “resist the devil and he will flee” from the other verses; when you submit to God, you are resisting the devil! You are on one side or the other. When you draw closer to God, you are under His protection.
It doesn’t mean our lives will be easy physically, but we can at least be at peace spiritually.
If your battle is unwanted/intrusive thoughts, don’t panic or worry that God is going to condemn you for those thoughts. Everyone is tempted outwardly; while Jesus wasn’t inwardly drawn to sin, he was tempted by the devil like the rest of us. One tip- when you’re dealing with these thoughts, listen to music that honors God. (1) It helps you draw closer to God, and (2) it can help you calm down and ignore the thoughts.
Final thought- this revolves around your relationship with God, so focus on being filled with His Spirit. Romans 8 promises “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”!
