Q: "My daughter is listening to a false prophet / teacher. Do you have any advice for warning her about being deceived?"

A: If you have already talked with your daughter about your specific concerns and she is still persuaded that this teacher is genuine, it may help to share Scripture about the importance of being wise and discerning, for example the following verses:

"The simple believes every word, but the prudent considers well his steps." (Proverbs 14:15)

"For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." (Matthew 24:24)

"For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple." (Romans 16:18)

"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1)

If she can see the need for caution in general, that will help her stay guarded and learn to have discernment rather than simply absorbing what she is hearing. Since God's Word commands us to be discerning, it is a matter of obedience for us to guard our hearts from deception.

I would encourage her to seek God with her whole heart and ask Him for guidance, because He is faithful to guide us into all truth by His Spirit (John 16:13; 1 John 2:27) and He can open her eyes to what is not from Him. Pray that He will guide you in talking with her, and that her eyes will be open to the truth!
