“Does God Accept Me?”

You might be questioning whether God really accepts you, even if you have a clear testimony of salvation (please see my article “Am I Saved”). If you have been born again through faith in Jesus, you are accepted because of Him. It is not based on your own efforts but His goodness.

It’s one thing to believe that you are going to heaven, but you might have a hard time believing that God truly wants a relationship with you. Not only is it difficult to live with lack of assurance of His love, but it also can be unmotivating and even keep you from progressing in your walk with Him.

It takes effort to replace doubt with confidence in God’s love for you. Spend time every day meditating on His promises for you. If you have trouble reading through passages in the Bible about judgment, remember that God uses judgment in love, in order to call nonbelievers to Himself (Ezekiel 18:32) and transform us as believers to be more like Him (Hebrews 12:5–11).

These Scriptures can help you find assurance of God’s love; although you may already know these verses, (1) speak them out loud, to help the truth sink in, and (2) spend intentional time every day repeating these truths to yourself. Repetition and speaking out loud are said to change our subconscious thoughts- which is deeper than intellectual knowledge.

Ephesians 1:6

“To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”

Psalm 40:5

Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Hebrews 2:11b

“He is not ashamed to call them brethren.”

Hebrews 7:25

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Hebrews 13:5

“I will never leave you nor forsake you”

1 John 3:1

“Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God…”

Titus 3:5

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us."

Matthew 11:30

“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

Romans 5:10

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

John 17:23b

“Thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”
