Am I Ready to Get Baptized?

Q: “Am I ready to get baptized? I’m not sure of my salvation because I’m still stuck in sinful habits, although I do feel conviction for sins I didn't notice before. Should I wait to get baptized?”

It's a good sign that you feel conviction for sins you didn't notice before, since the time when you think you trusted in Jesus. Still, if you are questioning whether you are saved now, that is worth considering before being baptized. For salvation, it's necessary to confess that you are a sinner in need of God's forgiveness, and trust in Jesus' sacrifice for you, while being willing for Him to change your heart (Luke 18:13; Romans 10:9-13; 2 Corinthians 5:17). Make sure you are trusting in Jesus and not your own efforts (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Being saved doesn't mean that you are immediately set free from all struggles with sin. While it's true that there is evidence of salvation as the Holy Spirit works in us, He doesn't force us to make right choices. He works in us, and we have the choice to act on what He is doing in our hearts (Galatians 5:16-23; Philippians 2:13). As you continue growing closer to God and pay attention to His leading, you will find more assurance in your relationship with Him.
